The Anti-Müllerian Hormone (AMH) test is a blood test that helps to give a picture of a woman's ovarian reserve, or in simpler terms, how many potential eggs she might have left.

Here's a straightforward breakdown:

1. Egg Supply Indicator: Women are born with a set number of eggs. As they age, this number decreases. The AMH test measures the level of the Anti-Müllerian hormone in the blood, which is produced by cells in the ovaries. The amount of this hormone gives doctors an idea of how many eggs a woman has left.

2. Fertility Insight Doctors often use the AMH test in fertility evaluations. If you’re trying to conceive, knowing your AMH levels can help assess your remaining egg supply, giving some insight into your fertility potential.

3. Age & Eggs: The test doesn’t tell you exactly how many eggs you have, but generally, higher AMH levels suggest more eggs, and lower levels suggest fewer eggs. However, it's not the sole factor in determining fertility. Other factors like egg quality and overall reproductive health also play crucial roles.

4. Consistent Levels: Unlike some other hormones, AMH levels don’t fluctuate significantly during a menstrual cycle, making it a reliable marker that can be tested at any time.
